You have questions. We have answers.
Q: What is the CEO Coalition for Change?
A: The CEO Coalition for Change is a group of automotive CEOs committed to taking action to make meaningful strides in diversity, equity and inclusion. The group’s aim is to become a more inclusive industry, leverage diverse talent and better engage the workforce.
Q: Who can join?
A: Any automotive industry (OE, Aftermarket, Sales/Service, Specialty Equipment, Mobility and related industries) CEO or person with an equivalent title and organizational responsibility. The automotive organization should have more than 100 employees.
Q: Is there a cost?
Q: Who is behind this change initiative?
A: The Center for Automotive Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (CADIA) and MICHauto convened with a group of 10 committed CEOs in early summer 2020 to talk about making meaningful change in the auto-mobility industry. Administrative needs of the group, resources and coordination are provided by CADIA and MICHauto.
Q: What is required of member CEOs?
A: CEOs commit to undertake two meaningful internal activities to move the needle on DE&I at their companies, and one external activity. CEOs meet for one hour via Zoom on a monthly or every-other-month basis to share their plans, activities, achievements and roadblocks.
Each meeting two CEOs provide a report, topics are discussed, thoughts and ideas are exchanged, and best practices are shared.
Q: What is the ultimate goal of the group?
A: Work together to make long-lasting and sustainable change that results in a diverse, equitable and inclusive industry.
Q: I don’t have a head of DE&I and everyone in my company is wearing multiple hats. How can I pull this off if I want to commit?
A: Many companies are in the same boat. CADIA and MICHauto can provide resources and information on how to get started, industry best practices and global standards to help you AND your team. Other CEOs will share how they are getting it done as well.
Q: If I join and I can’t make a meeting, can I send a proxy?
A: No, this is limited to CEOs only. But we know CEOs are busy people. If you miss a meeting you can catch up by reading the meeting minutes and reviewing any presentations, and optionally a 1:1 phone call with a CADIA or MICHauto staff person.
Q: How will I be held accountable?
A: CEOs will hold themselves and each other accountable by sharing plans via regular report-outs, goals and milestones met.
Q: My company is really in the dark ages when it comes to DEI. Is this group for me?
A: Yes. Many companies are well into their DEI journey but others are just starting. This is a group for anyone committed to making progress in DE&I. We meet you where you are. CADIA can provide a roadmap, resources and ideas for getting started. Other CEOs can offer encouragement and experience.
Q: DE&I is in my company culture. Why would I want to formalize what we do and/or join this group?
A: That is awesome, we hope you will join and share your experiences and best practices. Your peers will appreciate your insight, and you may learn something from them as well. As you may know, best practice sharing is a hallmark of those who have reached world-class, sustainable DEI strategies.
Q: How do I actually join?
A: Click on the link here to complete the “Join Form” and a staff member will reach out to you for a short onboarding process and get upcoming meetings on your calendar.
Q: Will you publish or share things that my company is working on?
A: No. We want to encourage transparency and mutual learning in this group. We will not publish what your company is doing. As a group, we may share best practices without your company name.
